Where logistics careers take flight: DACHSER partners in Dual System Professional Training Program
Every September, a new wave of young talent arrives in Hong Kong—one of the world’s busiest logistics hubs—to begin their journey in the Dual System Professional Training Program, an initiative organized by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (GIC) in Hong Kong. As a partner, DACHSER offers immersive, hands-on training that bridges classroom learning with real-world experience.
The 22-month program is designed and overseen by GIC together with the German Business School, in accordance with the guidelines of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK). It combines structured academic learning with extensive workplace training: trainees spend 1.5 days per week in theoretical classes and 3.5 days per week in their assigned company, applying their knowledge directly in real logistics environments.
Within DACHSER, trainees rotate across different functions, gaining exposure to air and sea freight, warehousing, transport coordination, customer interaction, and digital workflows. This broad involvement enables them to understand how global supply chains operate end to end, while contributing meaningfully to the teams.
Personal growth and cultural immersion
“Developing young logistics talent is essential to the future of our industry,” says Marcel Schmidt, Managing Director of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics Hong Kong. “Through the Program, we are able to give trainees meaningful, hands-on experience in one of the world’s most dynamic logistics hubs. Their energy and fresh perspectives enrich our teams, and we are dedicated to support their growth as they begin their careers.”
For many trainees, the program represents a significant personal milestone alongside professional development. Evita, one of the trainees at DACHSER Hong Kong, was particularly drawn by the opportunity to live abroad and grow through new experiences. “Moving to Hong Kong and living independently pushed me out of my comfort zone, but every challenge helped me grow and feel more at home,” she shares.
Emma, another participant in the program, was motivated by the combination of academic learning, hands-on work experience, and cultural immersion. Reflecting on her journey, she says, “Starting a full-time role in a completely new environment was challenging at first, but it has been incredibly rewarding to see how everything gradually becomes part of everyday life.”
"Through the Program, we are able to give trainees meaningful, hands-on experience in one of the world’s most dynamic logistics hubs. Their energy and fresh perspectives enrich our teams, and we are dedicated to support their growth as they begin their careers," says Marcel Schmidt, Managing Director of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics Hong Kong
Hong Kong’s strategic position as a global logistics hub adds unique depth to the program. Living abroad, integrating into a multicultural workplace, and balancing studies with daily operations accelerate both personal and professional development, helping trainees build confidence, adaptability, and global awareness.
Supporting the next generation of logistics professionals
By joining this program, DACHSER Hong Kong supports a platform that empowers young people to begin their careers with both structure and ambition. While GIC provides the academic framework and program coordination, participating companies like DACHSER play a key role in shaping meaningful, real-world experiences that prepare trainees for future roles in the logistics and supply chain industry.
As global trade continues to evolve, the need for skilled, agile, and internationally minded logistics professionals grows stronger. DACHSER remains committed to nurturing this next generation of talent—providing not only training, but also mentorship, global exposure, and a solid foundation for long-term career success.
