Making a career in logistics

2nd Dachser careers day draws more than 100 participants

On 4 November, Dachser held its second careers day at the company’s head office in Kempten. More than 100 students and young professionals from all over Germany took part in the event.

“The future belongs to you!” Bernhard Simon, head of the Dachser management board, told the students in his lecture. “The more deeply global markets become integrated across national borders, the more important intelligently managed international supply chains will become. This will be the golden hour for highly-qualified logistics specialists.”
The keynote speech held by Prof. Dr-Ing. Thomas Wimmer, chairman of the executive board of the Bundesvereinigung Logistik e.V. (German Logistics Association), on career opportunities in logistics, also met with much interest. “With 2.8 million employees and annual revenue of 220 billion euros, the industry is the third-largest sector of the German economy and offers qualified candidates excellent opportunities,” Wimmer said in his speech.

The subsequent panel discussion enlarged on this topic and offered the audience valuable tips about career opportunities and the demands employers place on graduates. In addition to Wimmer and Simon, members of the panel included Gerd Hailfinger, managing director of
Geberit Logistik GmbH and Prof. Dr Armin Schwolgin from the Cooperative State University of Baden-Württemberg in Lörrach, with deputy editor-in-chief of the Munich-based weekly magazine VerkehrsRundschau, Andre Kranke, taking the chair.
