Compared to the antique capitals like Beijing, Xian and Nanjing, Dalian is a young city with only a 100 year history. Due to its favourable geographical position it was already in the 6th century a very important sea port. After the Second World War, Dalian was administrated by China and Soviet Union. Since 1955 it belongs to China again. It is situated at the tip of China’s Liaodong Peninsular and is trading and financial centre in north-eastern Asia and has gained the name “Hong Kong of Northern China”.
